No Flu for You
Fall comes with pumpkin patches, apple picking, colorful foliage, and flu vaccinations! While no one enjoys getting a shot, the benefits of the flu vaccine greatly outweigh the temporary sting. Millions of people get the flu every year, and thousands will die from a flu-related illness this season. Protect yourself this year by getting vaccinated.
According to the CDC (2019), flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are used to make the vaccine. The type of vaccine you receive depends on your age and health status, so make sure to consult with your health care provider about which is best for you.
While the best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated, good health habits are also important to keep in mind.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick and keep your distance when you may be feeling under the weather.
- Make sure to stay home and rest if you’re feeling sick.
- Wash your hands multiple times throughout the day.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, since your hands could have germs on them.
- Get enough sleep, stay active, eat healthy, and drink lots of fluids to keep your body strong and healthy. Read our blog posts and find more ways to stay healthy.
